The 1893 Chicago World's Fair

Following on from the success of previous World's Fairs, such as the Paris event which saw the debut of the Eiffel Tower, the 1893 Chicago World's Fair was an incredible spectacle.

Attended by more than 25 million people, it saw the birth of the 'Ferris' wheel, the brainchild of George Washington Ferris Jr.

It was powered by alternating current, otherwise known as AC, in a story made famous in The Current Wars.

Queen Victoria had a presence and US President Cleveland attended along with a host of household names, including: Helen Keller, Alexander Graham Bell, Nikola Tesla, Lord Kelvin and many more.
